Practice & Experience

Willie Eyles Director of FreeUp

The passion came to me from my experience as an auditor working for PricewaterhouseCoopers.

It was quite clear to me that many of our Not For Profit clients faced significant skill & resource shortages.

Technology has made the cost of business significantly cheaper by 2022, so it is my goal to improve and implement systems and processes relating to finances to empower NFPs to make better decisions and improve outcomes.

Moving on from my formal training at a big 4 practice, I spent my days honing my analytical and technical skills for a high tech wood products manufacturer as the Company Accountant. Here, I picked up a lot of knowledge about being lean and efficient; using technology to solve problems and increase quality.

I continued to stay in touch with the NFP sector offering my time & expertise on the committee of my local rugby league club and providing additional support to the finance team to run the 14th Scouts NZ Venture over the summer of 2018/19 and again for the 15th Scouts NZ Venture over the 2022/23 summer.

Since moving to Auckland at the end of 2020, I worked at NZ Cricket as the Finance Business Partner. Gaining exposure to the inner workings of a national sport body gave me insight and an edge into understanding the ebbs and flows of operations right from the top of a governing body down to the grassroot clubs. This high level view gives me an advantage in knowing what is important, what can be helped, and opportunities that exist within a large network of affiliates and stakeholders. Something that can be relatable to many other sporting codes, NFP groups & charities.

In my own time I have been a volunteer rugby referee for the last five years; currently for the Auckland Rugby Referee Association and previously for Hawkes Bay. Sporting pursuits are a big passion of mine. They have been immeasurably influential in shaping my life to today, and I am always looking to how I can give back on and off the field.
